Marea House

This beach house was driven by a desire to create a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living, harnessing the natural beauty of the coastal environment while providing a space of comfort and tranquility. The house sits lightly on the land, its form and materials chosen to blend harmoniously with the surrounding beachscape, emphasizing sustainability and a strong connection to the elements.

Site & Orientation: Located in Canada, The site was carefully selected to maximize views of the ocean and the horizon, with the long axis of the house oriented to capture the best light throughout the day. Large, strategically placed windows open up the living spaces to panoramic vistas of the beach, while the house itself is raised slightly above the sand, protecting it from high tides and offering elevated views. The use of natural topography is key—small dunes and native plantings help to buffer the house from the elements while maintaining a sense of openness and privacy.

Exterior Design: The exterior is a modern, minimalist expression of coastal living, with clean lines and an emphasis on natural materials. The structure is elevated on pilotis (raised columns), which not only allows for natural airflow underneath but also gives the house a sense of weightlessness—almost as if it’s floating above the landscape.
